"Language-based submissions from BFA Creative Writing majors & minors."
Submission Guidelines
OCADU’s Creative Writing Program’s annual journal Pulse is currently closed for submissions. Please wait until our next issue for an updated guideline.
The following details the guidelines for the Pulse 2nd Issue:
We are looking for previously unpublished language based submissions from BFA Creative Writing majors and minors:
Poetry: 1-5 poems (all in one document)
Prose: maximum 1200 words
Audio / Video: no more than 5 minutes
Excerpts of longer works can be accepted as long as they can stand alone. All work submitted must be previously unpublished. Simultaneous submissions are okay, but please let us know as soon as your work has been accepted elsewhere so we may wish you congratulations!
We ask for first-time North American rights for accepted pieces. Following publication, all rights revert back to the author. Please note that your work first appeared in Pulse if it is reprinted elsewhere on the web or in print.
Please include a brief cover letter in your submission with your name, pronouns, the genre of your submission, and a two-sentence author bio written in third person. Do not include your name or any other identifying information in your document or file name. Please include any appropriate trigger warnings, note that we will not accept any graphic violence, graphic erotica, “trauma-porn,” work that is explicitly racist, homophobic, transphobic, antisemitic, islamophobic, or any other work designed to cause harm. Exercise your best judgment as to what work reflects both you as a writer as well as the community you write within.
